What’s the difference between Grubblies Hometown Harvest and World Harvest?
Grub Supplies offers two varieties of oven-dried black soldier fly grubs so there is an option for everyone. Our Hometown Harvest are grubs grown on farms in the United States and Canada. World Harvest are grubs grown on farms around the world. Both types are grown according to EU standards, the highest standards for growing insects in the world. Although grubs can vary in color from yellow to deep brown, the nutritional benefits are all the same for your flock.
Why do my Grubs look different?
Grubs are oven-dried black soldier fly grubs. These insects naturally range in color from yellow to black (because nature is cool like that). Whether they are light or dark, our naturally harvested grubs have the same levels of nutrition to keep your flock happily nourished. How do Grubs compare to other Chicken snacks?
Grubs help fuel our pets and the planet. Every peck of sustainably harvested grubs is loaded with nutrients for our fluffy ones. Grubs are rich in protein for strong, healthy feathers, and contain over 50x more calcium than mealworms for stronger eggshells. Grubs are also completely natural, which means they are not genetically modified, nor is anything added. Just shake the bag and watch them come running for a healthy snack they love.

Are Grubs Non-GMO verified and Certified Organic?
While we’re committed to a natural approach for naturally healthy chickens, currently, there are no black soldier fly grub farms that grow organic grubs. Grub Supplies are grown on fruits, veggies, and grains from farms, restaurants, and grocery stores that would normally go to waste. These pre-consumer products are non-organic, therefore, our grubs cannot be considered organic. However, you can rest assured they are fed a healthy, balanced diet that never includes post-consumer waste or farm manure.
Grubs are all-natural, free of GMOs! However, we do not hold a Non-GMO certification from the Non-GMO Project.
Can ducks, geese, turkeys, wild birds, and other feathered friends eat Grubblies?
Yes! Grubs are a fantastic snack for all types of birds and many other animals. Mixed flock owners often comment on how much all of their feathered friends love Grubs.
Do Grubblies count as a chicken protein and calcium supplement?
Many flock owners feed their feathered friends Grubs as a tasty, fun, healthy way to supplement their girls’ calcium and protein. In fact, grubs have a 34% protein level. They’re also rich in calcium with 50x more calcium than mealworms.
This comes in handy throughout the year, but especially during and after molting season and in winter when chickens benefit from more protein.
What is the serving size for Grubblies?
Serve up to ¼ cup of Grubs Hometown Harvest or 2-3 tablespoons of World Harvest per adult bird as a daily snack. When molting, supplement your feed with a double serving of protein-packed Grubs. For chicks, give 1-2 pinches daily – just like they would get in nature. Serve with chick grit and access to fresh water. Introduce new foods gradually and give your flock access to grit to aid digestion.
